Los Cycle Breakers is a space rooted in connectivity, storytelling, identity, and healing. From the quiet nuances of our inner worlds to our vivid, loud cultural truths, we explore what it means to be Latino, Latina, Latine, and Latinx in all its expressions.
Stories can heal. Seeing someone who looks like you and shares your thoughts and experiences can be transformational. Los Cycle Breakers exist at the intersection of mental health, cultural storytelling, community care, and intergenerational healing. This is a space for those who have decided the pattern stops with them and will not be passed on to further generations.
At the intersection of mental health, community, and culture
This platform was created by an immigrant Dominicana journalist and author who wanted stories that touched upon her community’s heart and soul. It was inspired by late-night conversations with our amiguis, the contradictions we grew up with, and the need to take up space with our full selves without performance or apology.
Los Cycle Breakers welcomes anyone wanting to explore, remember, and change what has always been and is no longer needed. Whether beautifully ordinary or messily special, our experiences are real and important.
LCB has three main values it lives by:
- being emotionally honest and openly sharing our true feelings and experiences;
- having cultural integrity and respecting and showing our cultural backgrounds authentically;
- and living in anti-performative healing that focuses on genuine, sincere growth and recovery.
Our topics explore how mental health intersects with culture, money, family, grief, and joy. We also cover pain and everything in between. Life is hard to manage, especially in the moments when we think no one notices or listens.
We connect with readers through essays, reflections, and interviews rooted in reality and community care. This isn’t a space for toxic positivity or generic platitudes. It’s a place for pause, presence, and permission to rest, reclaim, feel, and evolve.
We are here for the ones doing it differently. We are here to stay.
