Our hair is a big deal. Rain, shine, wind, or sleet — proper haircare is important regardless of the season. However, transitioning your hair between seasons can sometimes be confusing. Whether your hair is straight, wavy, curly, or coily, each hair tip requires something a little special.
That’s why Latinidad Collective asked an expert for some haircare tips that aid the transition into the fall season. New York City celebrity hairstylist Marc Ballance, who has styled Nick Jonas, Sam Claflin, Maisie Peters, and the late Angus Cloud, imparts his hair wisdom on what the different hairstyles need.
The 12-year industry veteran tells Latinidad Collective, “The transition from summer to fall is an amazing time to change up your hair. It’s not as hot outside, gets darker sooner, and people aren’t doing as many beach-related activities. The change in lifestyle and day-to-day activities means it’s an ideal time to transition your hair, too.”

For straight-haired hunnies
“Book in for a proper haircut,” Ballance asserts.
He continues, “Summertime is when anyone with straight hair wants to have their hair as long as possible. It’s also a time when there is a lot of heat styling on straight hair to have it looking certain ways for different events — think beach waves.”
The NYC hairstylist notes that “getting a proper haircut” can help remove spilt ends, something that will enhance “the condition of the hair” for a “healthier look” in the fall.

He says, “Think richer and healthier. You should book into a salon the minute fall hits and get a gloss.”
According to Ballance, a gloss service gives “a richness” to wavy hair color and will “boost the condition and shine.”

For curly divas
The hairstylist suggests that curly-haired divas “invest in a YS PARK diffuser.”
“The summer is perfect for air drying your curly hair. As the weather gets a little cooler, you don’t want to walk around with wet hair waiting for perfect curls. Investing in the YS Park diffuser will change your diffusing game forever,” he explains.
Ballance continues, “The mesh means that you can get as much heat as you like but there is never any air blowing onto the curls which can cause some frizz, plus it’s collapsible so you can bring it anywhere you like!”

For coily beauties
The John Barrett luxury salon stylist says fall is the perfect time for “deep conditioning.”
“Coily hair is prone to being dry as it never gets any natural oils from the roots,” he begins.
He concludes, “Add in the heat and UV damage from the sun and we need to invest our time and money into some really nourishing deep conditioning treatments that will focus on rehydrating and treating those beautiful coils!”
