Juan Gabriel Barbie to Be Released By Mattel on Anniversary of Singer’s Death

Queridas, it’s looking like the iconic toy brand Mattel will be honoring Juan Gabriel in a really special way. It is being reported that the legendary Mexican singer will have a Barbie that’s inspired by him released in August, weeks before Hispanic Heritage Month.

Not much is known about the upcoming JuanGa-inspired Barbie

Before his passing on August 28, 2016, Gabriel was beloved worldwide for the soul that his music possessed.

With hit songs like “Querida” and “Abrázame muy fuerte,” the singer was catapulted into a cultural stratosphere only Selena Quintanilla, Celia Cruz, and Walter Mercado have ever known.

FIERCE by mitú reports that the specialty Barbie is set to release on August 27 at 9 pm PT for Mattel’s exclusive Club 59 members.

General market sales will open up on August 28, just in time for the eighth anniversary of his passing.

So far, limited pictures have been released, but some are noting that the specialty Barbie’s outfit was inspired by the one he wore at his 1990 Palacio de Bellas Artes performance in Mexico City.

While some are excited about the homage, many are feeling disappointed that JuanGa isn’t getting a Ken

Under TikToker Fernanda Cortes’ video that discussed the release, many shared their excitement about Gabriel receiving a Barbie that was inspired by him.

“Juan Gabriel is a goat. His lyrics are always beautifully spoken,” one person commented.

Another said, “How exciting! I love that they’re doing this.”

“Wow this is so iconic,” someone else commented.

Under an Instagram post shared by FIERCE by mitú, some shared their disillusion.

“I’m sorry, it needs to be a Ken doll NOT a Barbie doll,” one person noted.

Another added, “Nobody asked for this.”

“Just make a MALE AND BROWN WITH BROWN FEATURES that looks like him,” someone else added.
