We all love to look our best regardless of the occasion, but for some reason, getting party-ready for Sala season tops just about any outing. Whether we’re going all out or trying to get by with something simple, our hair is the main character. It just ties everything together.
That’s why Latinidad Collective chatted up with an expert who could provide tips on how to elevate our look with minimal output. We spoke to Mexican celebrity hair stylist Victor Guadarrama during Latin GRAMMYs week and he gave us the 411 on his top hair tips.
Guadarrama, who is a brand ambassador for Shark Beauty, shares how folks need to be intentional about how they style their hair. His top tip for styling your hair? That you always feel comfortable with the look you want to achieve. Check out the conversation below.
The Latin Grammys are a beauty fest where fans can see so many different hairstyles. What are some styles you think will appear that people can recreate for the holidays?
The Latin GRAMMYs are definitely a party — it’s a runway on the red carpet. So what you see on the red carpet is what people, as you say, are going to wear this holiday season for Christmas and New Year.
I say that hair is an accessory. We can cover up with it and we can use it to style and frame our face. How can we achieve that with waves? With lots of volume and adding shine to the hair. For those who don’t have a lot of hair, give it volume by styling it with a good product to make it look more abundant and more defined.
I like super polished waves that give you that elegant, sophisticated touch. I think that the excess and extensions have been left a little bit behind because I think it ages people and everyone wants to look a little more natural.

As a stylist, you have clients that have different hair types and personalities. How do you adapt your techniques to suit your clients’ preferences?
I definitely like to reflect on who they are through hair and makeup. I like to dress them up but make them feel comfortable. Nothing that is daring for them. My hope is that they feel beautiful, that they feel spectacular and comfortable. We adapt it to the type of style, body, and face.
If you don’t have the hair, if you have very curly and frizzy hair, we polish it with a good straightener. If you have very thin hair, we give it a good wave with a good curling iron and add some extensions.
I like to highlight the color of their hair and the color of their eyes with certain colors of dresses. It’s like playing in a total look so that you feel good on a red carpet if you’re a celebrity or you’re going to a Christmas dinner event or a party. What matters is that you feel comfortable and you know how to take advantage of it.
